Exploring the fascinating world of bone biology…
This month, ourย “๐๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก”ย series takes us to one of the body’s most important weight-bearing bones:ย the tibia.
Also known as theย shinbone, the tibia is theย second longest bone in the human body, measuring approximatelyย 36 to 40 cm in adults. Together with the fibula, it forms the lower leg and supportsย up to 85% of the load transmitted through the leg during standing and walking.
More than just a structural support, the tibia plays a central role inย locomotion, balance, shock absorption, and force transmission, making it indispensable for every step we take.

โœ… Bone regeneration and fracture healing
โœ… Osteoporosis and bone remodeling studies
โœ… Evaluation of orthopedic biomaterials and implants
โœ… MicroCT, histology and biomechanical assessments
Because of its accessibility, well-characterized anatomy and cortical/trabecular architecture, the tibia is one of theย gold-standard bonesย for evaluating skeletal diseases and testing innovative therapies in translational research.
๐Ÿ’กย Fun fact:ย every time you run, jump or climb stairs, your tibia can experienceย compressive forces of up to 3โ€“5 times your body weight. Despite these enormous loads, it continuously remodels itself throughout life to maintain its remarkable strength.
